Four Things To Consider
There are 4 things to consider when writing your profile: your username, your profile caption, the information you divulge about yourself, and a possible photo. Call yourself 'x' , write only one short sentence and remain mysterious and it is unlikely you will get much response!
Your Username
It is your username which gets noticed first. Try to think of something catchy and interesting! An unusual choice makes for a point of conversation, whether it is the name of someone in a book you have read, something appertaining to a hobby or something you have made up for some reason.

Your Profile Caption
When you are purchasing a book or borrowing one from the library it is usually the title followed by the summary on the cover that gets your attention. Likewise with a profile. Another member will look at the caption, want to read more and go on to the profile. If you leave this section blank it is not very inspiring, whereas something like 'Bet you can't guess who I look like!' or ' Haven't you forgotten something?' would make people curious.
Your Profile
There are two rules you should try to adhere to when writing a profile. The first is to tell the truth! If you don't, it can lead to disappointment later. The second is to be positive about yourself. HOWEVER, even if you think you lead a dull life, you can make yourself sound more interesting just by a choice of words. Think of a few words to describe your character. Suppose the reality is that you are shy, lonely and bored. Just writing these would not tempt anyone to contact you. However writing : 'I am a shy person until you get to know me and then you will have found a true and loyal friend. At the moment I am on my own with time on my hands, but now I am hoping to meet the right person to change all that.' is so much more interesting than the original three words you started with. Add to this by talking about your likes and dislikes and elaborate on these. For example, you might say that you like going to the cinema, so here you can add the type of films you like to see and maybe who your favourite actors are. Similarly, if you like to travel, say where you have been or to where you would like to go, and why. More of these details can be added to your 'Favourite Things' section (you'll see this when you join), and this will help other members to build up a picture of what you are like, see if you have shared interests, and give them something to pick up when messaging you.
Your Photo
Uploading a photo is not essential, but profiles with photos do get a much bigger response. At FiftyAlready.com there is the added facility to upload a hidden photo which is not visible to all members but which you can, if and when you wish, reveal to selected members you are messaging. Do choose a photo which is relatively up to date - and if you have one with a smile you're onto a winner!
What Next?
Having written your profile don't just wait to be noticed and hope for a message - make the first move!! We have a free preset messaging system which means you can contact others with a one-liner and see if you get a response. This has a much quicker effect than waiting for members to log in to see who has recently joined because they will get an email notification to say a message is waiting for them in their inbox! Try it - the very worst that can happen is that you don't get a reply from some people. But then, you might just meet your soulmate.
